By Rubén Morales Iglesias: With the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) Jaguar Cup hanging in the balance, Game 2 of the Final Series tips off Saturday night at 9:00 pm at the Belize City Civic Center. The San Pedro Tiger Sharks lead the best-of-three series 1–0 after a gritty 65–62 win in Friday’s opener, and now stand one victory away from hoisting the league’s inaugural championship trophy.
Tiger Sharks: One Win from History
San Pedro’s playoff perfection remains intact. Jihad Wright’s all-around brilliance and Brian White’s rebounding dominance powered the Tiger Sharks through a physical Game 1. Despite shooting just 13.3% from beyond the arc, San Pedro controlled the boards and minimized turnovers, showcasing the kind of composure that wins titles.
Saturday night, expect Francis Arana to take on more playmaking duties, while Tyrell Griffith and Malik Hunt look to stretch the Ballaz defense with mid-range and transition scoring.
Western Ballaz: Must-Win Mentality
The Cayo Western Ballaz know what’s at stake. A loss tonight ends their championship dream. After a slow start in Game 1, the Ballaz surged late behind Darnell Oden and Jamell Harris, but couldn’t overcome 19 turnovers and missed free throws.
Coach Bernie Tarr will likely emphasize ball control and perimeter spacing, hoping Arik Nicholas and D’von Campbell can ignite early offense. With Joel Montejo and Kerwin Palacio showing flashes off the bench, depth could be the X-factor.
What to Watch
– Can San Pedro maintain rebounding dominance and close out the series?
– Will the Ballaz clean up their turnovers and capitalize on their three-point shooting?
– Who steps up in crunch time—Wright again, or a new hero in red, black, and white?
Jaguar Finals Schedule
– Game 2: Saturday, September 27 – Belize City Civic Center @ 9:00 pm
– Game 3 (if necessary): Sunday, October 5 – Belize City Civic Center @ 5:00 pm
Saturday night’s clash isn’t just about basketball—it’s about pride, legacy, and the right to be called the first BPBL champions. The Belize City Civic Center will be electric.
