By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The EZ Investments Dangriga Dream Ballers proved too sharp on both ends of the court, powering past the Punta Gorda Panthers 73–61 on Saturday, July 12, at the Russell “Chiste” Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga. The victory moved Griga to 6–3 in the 2025 Belize Premier Basketball League standings, holding on to their second-place spot as the Panthers slid to 2–7 after a tough back-to-back weekend loss.
Deshawn Brackett’s Brilliance Sparks Griga Offense
Deshawn Brackett was a commanding presence for the Dream Ballers, pouring in 20 points and dishing out 4 assists while generating 5 steals in a two-way showcase. His fast-break bursts and mid-range precision were key to breaking the Panthers’ defensive structure.
Guard Kirk Smith Jr. added 14 points and nailed 5 of 9 free throws, while Daniel Conorque pulled down 9 rebounds and netted 14 points of his own. Edgar Mitchell’s all-around effort—7 points, 6 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals—was a quiet but crucial catalyst.
Panthers Falter Late
Despite resilient efforts from Marquise Cunningham (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Chance Leslie (14 points, 4 threes), the Panthers couldn’t stop the bleeding on defense or convert from the line, shooting just 43.8% on free throws.
Turnovers plagued PG’s rhythm, committing a whopping 29 miscues compared to Griga’s 15. While Kyle Steward and Kevin Hamilton each contributed double-digit scoring, their combined 9 personal fouls disrupted flow in critical stretches.
