By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Basketball fever is about to hit Belize as the long-anticipated Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) launches its inaugural season Friday, May 16.
The BPBL features seven teams, divided into two competitive conferences—the North-South (Toucan) Conference and the East-West (Mayan) Conference. These squads will face off over the coming months in pursuit of the championship title.
Opening Night Thriller – Friday, May 16
The season officially tips off at 9:00 pm on Friday at the Belize City Civic Center with the Belize City Thunderbolts hosting the EZ Investment Dream Ballers. Fans can expect a high-energy contest as both teams look to make a statement in their BPBL debut.
Saturday Night Clashes – May 17
The excitement continues on Saturday, May 17, with two thrilling matchups. In the Mayan Division, Cayo Western Ballaz host the Belmopan Capital City Kings at Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio at 8:00 pm.
Meanwhile, in the Toucan Division, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks travel north to face the Corozal Cerros Suns at the Andres Campos Civic Center in Corozal Town—also tipping off at 8:00 pm.
