Belize Police Department investigating suspected “narco operatives”

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa says that the Belize Police Department is investigating suspected narco operatives in Belize.

However, Musa indicated that Mexican law enforcement officials informed that the violence and tensions in Chetumal have eased a bit.

“Our counterparts in Mexico are saying that in fact things are dying down, the tension is easing a bit, but at the same time, we must be relentless in protecting our border and so we are at no point letting our guards down right now, their presence is still there, the increase in presence and personnel from our department and the military is at our border points and so we are taking it very seriously, we have not put our guards down, despite the fact that it seems to have quelled a bit in Mexico,” Musa said.

“You might have seen last week wanted posters for certain individuals from the north. Those are active investigations into those individuals that is being carried out by the department,” Musa added.

Last week, the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams confirmed that Belizean law enforcement authorities were aware of narco operatives in Belize.
