By Zoila Palma: On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Belize Police Department hosted their Southern Symposium.
The event was held at Ocean View Beach, Dangriga Town and it brought together members of the security forces from the Southern Region and invited guests to recognize the invaluable contributions of women in law enforcement.
Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado recognized several outstanding female police officers.
The awardees received Woman of the Year Awards from their respective formations for their dedication, professionalism, and service.
The awardees are as follows:
- Sgt. 554 Lauren Lopez – Dangriga
- P.C. 85 Nuwani Arzu – Hopkins
- P.C. 1930 Lynnette Ordonez – Intermediate Southern Formation
- P.C. 1634 Janel Myers – Placencia
The symposium featured a series of impactful presentations from distinguished guests.
Speaker of the House Valerie Woods delivered insightful remarks on Women in Leadership.
Dr. Erica Aguilar-Villacorta emphasized the importance of higher education within Belize’s security forces.
Iveth Quintanilla spoke on the significance of self-love and mental health, while Dr. Camesha Borland provided valuable information on HPV prevention and treatment.
The organizers extended appreciation to Commissioner Rosado; Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandra Bowden; Sr. Supt. Ramclam; Sr. Supt. Cocom (Southern Regional Commander); Supt. Reyes; ASP Jose Tillett; Major Oliva (BDF); Lieutenant Reyes (BCG); and all commanders who were present.
The Belize Police Department says that it remains committed to empowering and recognizing the contributions of women within the security forces, as they continue working together toward a safer Belize.
