By Zoila Palma: The Belize People’s Front (BPF) has issued a strong condemnation of recent military actions against Venezuela, warning that the escalation threatens peace and stability across the Caribbean and Latin America.
In a press release, the BPF denounced what it described as military aggression and illegal efforts to detain Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, arguing that such actions undermine regional sovereignty.
“Any airstrike or act of war carried out in Caribbean territory is not an isolated incident,” the Belize People’s Front said, adding that such actions “directly threaten the sovereignty, security, and stability of all Caribbean nations and Our America.”
The BPF stressed that the Caribbean and Latin America have long been recognized as a Zone of Peace and warned that military conflict could destabilize economies already vulnerable to rising fuel and food costs, shortages of basic goods, and heightened insecurity.
The group also cautioned that conflict in Venezuela would have direct economic consequences for Belize and its neighbors, particularly in tourism and trade.
“War anywhere in the Caribbean or Latin America endangers the safety of our people and destabilizes our economies,” the statement said.
The BPF said Belizeans should recognize that “Belize is part of this region, not the United States,” emphasizing that regional fallout would be felt locally.
The Belize People’s Front said it was aligning itself with the Foro de São Paulo and other international voices calling for peace, while reaffirming its support for Venezuela.
“We stand in firm and unwavering solidarity with the Nation of Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro, and his family,” the organization said.
The statement concluded with a call for the region to remain free from foreign intervention, declaring that “Our America must remain a Zone of Peace.”
