By Zoila Palma: A Belize delegation led by Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations, is currently participating in FITUR 2026, the most influential international tourism fair, taking place in Madrid, Spain, from January 21 – 25.
FITUR 2026 includes the participation of 156 countries.
During the event, Belize officially handed over the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Mundo Maya Organization (MMO) to Mexico and will transfer leadership of the Central America Tourism Agency (CATA) to the Dominican Republic on January 22, 2026.
FITUR also provides a unique platform for strategic engagement, with the delegation meeting with various European airlines, tour operators, and media representatives from Spain, South America, and Central America during their time there.
Additionally, Minister Mahler formally received Belize’s Certificate of Recognition, presented by James Smith, Vice President of Destination Partnerships, for inclusion on the Wanderlust Good to Go List 2026.
“This recognizes Belize as a destination that embodies the most authentic, meaningful, and responsible travel,” the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) noted.
Also representing Belize at the event are Nicole Usher, CEO of the Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations; Dr. Vincent Palacio, Chairman of the Board, Evan Tillett, Director of Tourism; and members of the Aviation Development Committee.
