By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Economic Transformation has announced that two Belizean representatives are attending a key regional workshop on climate finance in Kingston, Jamaica.
Anisa Nah, Proposal Development Officer, and Christopher Tapia, Climate Finance Officer, are representing Belize’s National Designated Authority (NDA) at the Convening of the Climate Project Developers Community of Practice & South-South Knowledge Exchange.
The two-day event is hosted by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) and the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK FCDO).
The workshop brings together Direct Accredited Entities (DAEs) and potential Accredited Entities to share experiences, strengthen knowledge, and explore the creation of a coordinating mechanism for Caribbean DAEs.
Organizers say such a mechanism would allow regional entities to jointly advocate for greater support from international partners and financing institutions.
Belize’s participation comes at a crucial time, as the NDA is actively pursuing accreditation to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Achieving this status would provide the country with an additional pathway to access climate finance and strengthen its capacity to implement climate resilience projects.
