By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA) announced Thursday that the Central American Games Torch Relay will be making its historic stop in Belize this weekend as it tours Central America. The arrival of the flame marks a significant moment in the lead-up to the highly anticipated regional sporting event, symbolizing unity, peace, and the spirit of competition among Central American nations.
The XII edition of the Central American Games will be held in Guatemala from October 18 to 30, 2025.
The torch traveled from Guatemala to Costa Rica on September 9 and will arrive from Panama on Friday at 4:30 pm, accompanied by a delegation of seven, including the mascot Balami.

Friday, September 12th: Arrival and Welcome
The torch’s journey in Belize commences on Friday, September 12.
- 4:30 pm – The Torch and its official Delegation will arrive at the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (PGIA).
- Following its arrival, cyclists will escort the Delegation and the torch as they make their way into Belize City.
- The relay will proceed to the Flag Roundabout (on the San Cas side), then around the Flag Roundabout to the KHMH Parking Lot, before finally reaching its temporary home at the Ned Pitts Olympic House.
Belizeans are encouraged to gather along this initial route to warmly welcome the torch and its delegation.

Saturday, September 13: Opening Ceremony and City-Wide Relay
The excitement continues on Saturday, September 13, with a full day of celebrations:
- 8:00 am – An official Opening Ceremony will be held at the Ned Pitts Olympic House. This event will feature remarks from BOCGA officials and distinguished guests, celebrating the role of sport in fostering regional solidarity.
- 9:10 am – The highly anticipated Torch Run through Belize City will begin, starting from the Olympic House.
The relay route, designed to allow maximum public participation, will proceed as follows:
- Princess Margaret Drive
- BTL Park (North End)
- Barracks Road (Clock)
- Hydes Lane
- North Front Street
- Swing Bridge (North Side)
- Albert Street
- Regent Street
- Swing Bridge
- Via Tourist Village Street
- The relay will culminate at the iconic Baron Bliss Lighthouse (Finish).
