By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize sole Olympian Shaun Gill has taken to social media to thank Belize for the support he is receiving while he is at the Olympics in Paris.
“Right before I go to sleep, I just want to say a huge thank you for all the support from everybody, all Belizeans, local and abroad, and anybody else who’s offered any type of support – the messages, the calls, the comments,” Gill, who is Belize’s only athlete at Paris 2024, said at 11:47 pm (France time) on Tuesday night.
“I just want to say a huge thanks to everybody. I appreciate it. We’re feeling the love. Right now at the Olympics, Belize is in the spotlight. Everybody just wants to hear more about Belize, learn more about Belize.”
Gill said people at the Olympics are very much interested in getting the toucan commemorative pin the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA) gave him to share at Paris 2024.
“We have the little pins that we trade; everybody wants the pins,” Gill said.
“Belize is trending right now. I just want to say thanks to everybody.”
Gill will be competing in the 100m Preliminary Round on Saturday, August 3.
