By Zoila Palma: Today, the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) issued a statement expressing sympathies and condolences to the family of young Gabriel Pablo Orellana, who tragically passed away on the afternoon of Monday, February 3rd, 2025.
“We also wish to extend our thoughts, prayers and support to Gabriel’s extended family, the principal, teachers and students at Stella Maris School. We are certain that this is a tremendous blow to the institution and ask the pubic to join with us in lifting them up during this most difficult time,” the BNTU noted.
The BNTU expressed solidarity with the teachers and pledged to offer support.
“We will do all that is within our power to assist in ensuring they receive the counselling that is so vital for each of them to begin the recovery process. This incident is by no means a true reflection of the vital pillar of success that is the Stella Maris School Institution. It has, for many years, provided stellar educational services to one of our most vulnerable Belizean populations and will continue to do so, despite the dark cloud which now hangs over it,” the BNTU added.
The union also urged partners in education to assist where possible.
