By Aaron Humes: Today, July 20, is the anniversary of the foundation of the Belize National Teacher’s Union (BNTU).
Former President Elena Smith wished her colleagues in the “Big Bad Green Machine,” as she called it, a happy anniversary.
“May we continue to remain strong advocates for members and nation,” she added.
The BNTU has been active in promoting education concerns and acted as an ally of the Government, if not always an acquiescent one. Recently it signed along with the Public Service Union and Association of Public Service Senior Managers a collective bargaining agreement guaranteeing benefits and greater salaries.
