By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize National Karate Team will compete in the Junior Central American Championship, which will be held from March 4-10, 2025, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Earlier, the Belize Karate Federation (BKF) held a press conference at the Olympic Building, Ned Pitts House, in Belize City to announce the team’s international participation and highlight their preparations for this regional event.

On Wednesday, the Belize Karate Federation welcomed Nicaraguan coach, sensei Jadder Leoxbell Montalván Acevedo, at the Philip Goldson International Airport. Montalván will coach the Belize National Karate Team for two weeks and will accompany them to San Pedro Sula.

“This year, we are excited to participate in the Junior Central American Championships, with the goal of fielding athletes for the upcoming Central American Games, to be held in October in Guatemala City,” the BKS said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Athletes representing Belize are selected based on their performance in our national championships and their commitment to national team training.”

Sensei Herman Pastor of Cayo Shotokan Karate Club will lead the Belize delegation to the regional tournament, which will be held at Gimnasio Municipal de San Pedro Sula. Coach Steve Mossiah will travel with the team and will serve as a judge at the tournament.

The team travels by road on March 3.

During the press conference, the BKF proudly introduced the 17-strong national team representing Belize. Attendees had the opportunity to meet the athletes, learn about their rigorous preparation, and hear about the team’s goals and aspirations for the Central American Championships.
