By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Meteorological Service is keeping a close eye on two active systems in the Atlantic, though neither currently poses a threat to Belize.
As of 3:00 a.m., Hurricane Gabrielle was located near latitude 33.2N and longitude 59.7W, or about 305 miles east-northeast of Bermuda. Gabrielle is a powerful Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. The system is moving northeast at 13 mph and is expected to remain far from the Caribbean and Belize.
Meanwhile, a tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles (AL93) is producing showers and thunderstorms and showing increasing signs of organization. The system currently has a medium chance of development within the next 48 hours. Forecasters note that while the disturbance may strengthen, it does not pose any immediate threat to Belize.
Belizeans are reminded that the hurricane season is still active and that conditions can change quickly. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official updates from the National Meteorological Service and to remain prepared.
