By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Softball Team opened their campaign at the 12th Central American Games with a tough 9–0 loss to Panama on Friday morning at the Carlos Cano Stadium in Guatemala City.
Despite entering the tournament with high hopes and a rigorous training regimen, Belize struggled to find rhythm against a sharp Panamanian squad that capitalized early and maintained pressure throughout the seven-inning contest. The defeat marks Belize’s first official outing of the Games and sets a challenging tone for the days ahead.
Panama jumped ahead and never looked back, combining disciplined hitting with aggressive base running to build a commanding lead. Belize’s defense showed flashes of resilience, but errors and missed opportunities allowed Panama to extend their advantage. Offensively, Belize was unable to break through Panama’s pitching, leaving runners stranded and failing to register a run.
The Belize team, which arrived in Guatemala City early Wednesday and held its first workout at the Carlos Larrañaga Softball Field, now turns its attention to Saturday’s matchup against Honduras at 9:00 am. With four more round-robin games scheduled over the next three days—including a double-header on Sunday versus Costa Rica and hosts Guatemala—the squad faces a demanding test of endurance and execution.
Following round play, the top four teams will advance to Tuesday’s playoffs and medal games under the Paige system, which rewards higher-ranked teams while still offering lower seeds a path to the final.
The Belize Women’s National Softball Team is also set to compete in Guatemala, marking their first international appearance in 12 years. The women’s squad departs Belize on Tuesday, October 21, with their tournament running from Friday, October 24 to Tuesday, October 28.

- Saturday, October 18 – vs Honduras at 9:00 am
- Sunday, October 19 – double-header vs Costa Rica at 11:30 am and Guatemala at 2:00 pm
- Monday, October 20 – wrap up round play vs Nicaragua at 9:00 am
- Tuesday, October 21 – Playoffs/medal games – Top 4 teams at 9:00 am
