By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) are ready to face Montserrat today in the FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm local time (3:00 pm Belize time).
Ahead of the match, BMNT held an official field recognition training session on Tuesday afternoon, allowing players to familiarize themselves with the playing surface and weather conditions while refining their tactical approach. The team, based about an hour and 30 minutes from the stadium, also used the session to adjust to travel logistics for the game.
The 22-player Belize squad are aiming for a solid performance, with Jordy Polanco expected to take control in midfield against Montserrat. Meanwhile, Desmond Wade, who did not travel for this match, is set to rejoin the squad for Saturday’s clash against Panama at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
Belize’s best bet for a win in the qualifiers comes against Montserrat, as they seek redemption following tough losses last year—4-0 to Nicaragua and 3-1 to Guyana. Conversely, Belize are Montserrat’s best bet for a win. Belize will need to be sharp and resilient to earn a much-needed positive result.
Belize have struggled in the qualifiers so far, reaching the halfway mark without anything to show for their efforts. As they face Montserrat, they must find a way to turn their campaign around and deliver a performance that can spark hope.
