By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) are wrapping up their three-day training cycle at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan on Wednesday. Since Monday, they have been preparing for their upcoming Concacaf Nations League matches against French Guiana next month.
However, the BMNT have faced challenges as Verdes players were not released by the Premier League of Belize’s leading club to attend the training session, much to the chagrin of Head Coach Charlie Slusher, under whose leadership the BMNT regained entry into the Concacaf Nations League B. The BMNT had been relegated from that level last year.
After topping League C’s Group B over Turks and Caicos Islands and Anguilla not only did the BMNT climb back to League B, but they also earned the right to compete in the Concacaf Play-In against French Guiana. This match offers a chance to play in the Concacaf Gold Cup Preliminary Round, known as the Prelims.
The first of two matches against French Guiana will be held at the FFB Stadium on November 14, 2024, in Belmopan. The second match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, French Guiana’s neighboring country.
