By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) will be facing the Major Soccer League Atlanta United in Atlanta, Georgia in an international friendly on Saturday, September 6 at 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize) at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground. Though the BMNT are playing the Atlanta United B Team, the Football Federation of Belize sees the match as a valuable opportunity to assess squad depth and tactical cohesion against professional opposition.
The trip is sponsored by the Belize Tourism Board.
The BMNT departed Belize on Thursday, September 4 and will return on Sunday, September 7 following the weekend fixture.
BMNT Roster:
- Goalkeepers: Charles Tillett, Isaac Castillo
- Defenders: Brandon Jones, Naim Wilson, Jaylen Lennan, Deshawon Nembhard
- Midfielders: Eldon Reneau, Nahjib Guerra, Alence Ayala, Marlon Meza Jr, Darrel Myvett, Gabriel Ramos, Michael Salazar, Eddie Williams
- Forwards: Carlos Bernardez, Andir Chi, Krisean Lopez, Desmond Wade
- Joining the team in Atlanta: Michael Salazar (midfielder), Isaac Castillo (goalkeeper)
Verdes midfielder Jordy Polanco was called up but did not travel due to injury. Veteran goalkeeper Woodrow West also remained in Belize.
The technical staff is led by Head Coach Carlos Slusher, assisted by Shane Orio.
The BMNT departed Belize on Thursday, September 4 and will return on Sunday, September 7 following the weekend fixture.
The match coincides with a Premier League of Belize (PLB) break, as no domestic fixtures are scheduled this weekend due to the FIFA calendar. League play resumes on Saturday, September 13, with Belmopan FC hosting Port Layola at Isidoro Beaton Stadium.
