By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) wrapped up their final preparations ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Mexican club Neza FC at the FFB Stadium on Thursday night.
The match provided crucial minutes for Head Coach Daniel Bartolotta’s squad as they fine-tuned their tactics before departing for Trinidad and Tobago, where they will face Montserrat in a vital qualifier on Wednesday, June 4. Despite the stalemate, the BMNT showcased defensive solidity against Neza FC.
Coming off a 1-1 draw against Club Deportivo Aragón last week, the BMNT were eager to gain momentum in their final tune-up match. While both sides created chances, the game ultimately remained goalless, reflecting a closely contested battle in Belmopan.
Following Thursday’s encounter, the BMNT is now travelling in two groups, departing Belize on Friday and Saturday. Their journey will take them through Miami before arriving in Trinidad and Tobago, where Montserrat will play their home fixture due to a lack of FIFA-approved stadiums in their own territory.
With Nicaragua and Panama leading the qualification group, Belize remains in search of their first points, making Wednesday’s clash a pivotal moment in their campaign. After their match against Montserrat, the BMNT will return home to face Panama at the FFB Stadium on Saturday, June 7.
