By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize joined the global community in celebrating World Food Day 2025 under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods & a Better Future.” The national celebration took place at Georgetown Technical High School, where students, farmers, and key agricultural stakeholders gathered to highlight the importance of food security, sustainability, and climate resilience.
The event showcased Belize’s growing commitment to building a sustainable and innovative agricultural sector. It featured vibrant cultural presentations, thought-provoking keynote addresses, and the signing of four key agreements under the Climate Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture Project (CRESAP)—a transformative initiative designed to strengthen the country’s ability to withstand climate impacts while boosting food production.
CRESAP is being implemented by the Belize Social Investment Fund (BSIF) in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) and is financed by the World Bank. The project aims to build climate-smart farming systems, promote sustainable land management practices, and enhance the livelihoods of rural farmers across Belize.
Through these newly signed agreements, Belize reaffirms its dedication to improving food systems that are environmentally sound, socially inclusive, and economically viable. The initiative emphasizes empowering local farmers, particularly in rural communities, with resources and training to increase productivity while protecting natural resources.
Ministerial representatives praised the collaboration between the government, international partners, and local stakeholders, noting that projects like CRESAP are vital for ensuring that Belizean families continue to enjoy access to safe, nutritious, and locally produced food.
The 2025 celebration also highlighted the role of young people in shaping Belize’s agricultural future. Students from Georgetown Technical High School participated in exhibitions and discussions promoting climate-smart agriculture and sustainable food production practices.
