Belize lose to Bermuda, drop to 1-4 in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s national cricket team faced another challenging match on Thursday, December 12, 2024, as they fell to Bermuda by 71 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Americas Qualifier. The game, held at St George’s College Ground in Buenos Aires, saw Bermuda posting a total of 123/9 in their 20 overs.

Despite an early breakthrough from Belize, Bermuda’s Dion Stovell played a crucial role, scoring 10 runs off 9 balls and taking 3 wickets for 17 runs in his 4 overs, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Belize struggled in their response, managing only 52 runs in 14.2 overs.

Belize’s top scorers included Bernan Stephenson with 11 runs from 8 balls, and Alex Oxley with 11 runs from 18 balls.

This defeat drops Belize to a 1-4 record in the tournament. Prior to this match, Belize faced a tough defeat against the Bahamas on Tuesday, with the Bahamas clinching a narrow 3-run victory, finishing with a score of 117/5 while Belize managed 114/6.

Belize’s journey in the qualifier started with their first and only win so far against Mexico. However, they narrowly lost to the host country, Argentina, with a final score of 101-96 in the last over. Subsequently, Belize fell to the Cayman Islands with a scoreline of 151-107 in 20 overs.
