By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 19 Belize Men’s National Team (U19 BMNT) lost their second match in the 2024 Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA Forward Tournament in Tegucigalpa, Honduras by a score of 6-0 to Guatemala on Sunday.
Gabino Vásquez scored a hat trick for Guatemala. Marvin Avila added a brace, and Saúl Sagastume netted the other goal.
On Friday, the U19 BMNT had fallen 7-1 to Costa Rica in Group B. Jean Serano scored Belize’s only goal.
In the other Group B match on Sunday, Costa Rica drew 1-1 with Cuba, who are playing as invited guests.
In Group A, Panama rolled over Nicaragua 4-0 while Honduras dumped El Salvador 4-2.
Guatemala lead Group B with six points, followed by Costa Rica with four, Cuba with one , and Belize without any.
In Group A, Panama and Honduras lead with six points apiece. El Salvador and Nicaragua trail without any points.
The U19 BMNT will now face Cuba in their last first round match on Tuesday, January 22 at 11:00 am. Costa Rica will take on Guatemala at 3:00 pm.
In Group A, El Salvador will take on Nicaragua at 11:00 am and Honduras will close against Panamq at 3:00 pm.
UNCAF tournament is being played at the Olimpia High Performance Center (Centro de Alto Rendimiento – CAR CDO) in Tegucigalpa.
The U19 BMNT losses haven’t been well received by the Belizean fanbase.
