Belize launches workshop to strengthen Labour Force Participation and Employability

By Zoila Palma:  Today, Government officials and representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)launched a three-day planning workshop in Belmopan aimed at advancing preparations for a programme designed to strengthen labour force participation and employability in Belize.

The sessions, being held from August 25 to 27, bring together representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour, the Central Executing Unit and the IDB.

Tanya Santos, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour, delivered the opening address and emphasized the importance of coordinated planning, clear responsibilities and effective programme management.

Santos also highlighted the role of the Labour Department in advancing the programme’s objectives and recognized Labour Commissioner Rissela Dominguez Patt for her leadership and the department’s continued efforts to improve employment services and labour market participation.

Participants will review and validate key planning instruments, including the Results Matrix, Pluriannual Execution Plan, Annual Operating Plan and priority procurement processes. The workshop will also identify key activities and deliverables for the first 18 months of implementation, assign responsibilities and establish timelines for monitoring progress.

During the sessions, the Central Executing Unit will present the programme’s objectives, components, management structure, operational manual and Theory of Change. IDB specialists will also lead discussions on financial management, procurement requirements and non-reimbursable investment financing linked to migration, while participants examine potential implementation challenges and ways to address them.

The workshop will conclude on Thursday with the validation of activity timelines, priority deliverables, procurement processes and monitoring arrangements.
