Belize launches situational analysis on children with disabilities

53

By Zoila Palma:  On December 3, 2025, the Government of Belize and UNICEF officially launched the Situational Analysis on Children with Disabilities (SitAn).

The report shines a light on the realities faced by some of the country’s most vulnerable children.

UNICEF noted that the landmark study provides critical insights to guide policies, investments, and programs that ensure every child is counted, visible, and included.

Key findings reveal:

A lack of consistent, disaggregated data on children with disabilities

Limited access to inclusive education and health services

Shortage of trained professionals and assistive technologies

Persistent stigma and ableism in communities

“Let’s use this data to drive decisions and create a Belize where every child, regardless of ability, can reach their full potential. UNICEF remains committed to working alongside the Government of Belize and all partners to build systems that protect and empower children with disabilities,” UNICEF said.
