By Zoila Palma:  Belize officially launched the 7th round of its Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 7) in partnership with the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) and UNICEF.

The announcement, made on World Children’s Day highlights how Belize plans to use reliable data on children and women to inform policy and interventions.

MICS 7 is one of the most comprehensive household surveys in Belize, covering more than 5,000 households.

It uses standardized international methods to collect data across key areas such as maternal and child health, early childhood development, education, child protection, mental health, and gender equality.

With 126 indicators—including 40 aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—the survey provides a critical tool to monitor progress on national priorities and global development targets.

While the full MICS 7 report is expected in early 2026, UNICEF Belize has already published snapshots revealing early trends in domains such as child mortality, education, discipline, water and sanitation, and more.
