By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Cuba has received a major humanitarian shipment of food and basic supplies from Mexico and Belize as the island continues facing severe shortages caused by its ongoing economic and energy crisis.
The commercial vessel Asian Katra arrived at the Port of Havana carrying approximately 1,700 tons of commodities intended to support Cuban families struggling with limited access to essential goods.
Cuban state media described the shipment as a sign of cooperation and solidarity from the governments and peoples of Mexico and Belize.
Officials in Cuba thanked both countries for their contribution, noting that the aid comes at a difficult time for the Cuban population.
For Belize, the donation reflects the country’s long-standing friendship with Cuba. Belize and Cuba have maintained close diplomatic relations for decades, with Cuba providing medical support, scholarships and other forms of cooperation to Belize over the years.
The shipment also highlights Belize’s continued position of regional solidarity with Cuba, even as the island remains under pressure from long-standing United States sanctions and embargo measures.
