By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Under-20 Women’s National Team kicked off their 2025 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Qualifiers campaign with a 0-0 draw against Guyana on Friday morning. The match, which began at 8:00 am Belize time (10:00 am Antigua time), took place at the ABFA Technical Center in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.

The encounter marked the first-ever meeting between Belize and Guyana in this competition. Both teams are part of Group A, which also includes Haiti and the host nation, Antigua and Barbuda. The stakes are high, as the group winners will advance to the 2025 Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship, joining already-qualified teams like Mexico and the United States.

For Belize, this is their fifth appearance in the qualifiers, having previously participated in 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2023. The team is determined to make history by advancing further in the competition. On the other hand, Guyana is making their fourth appearance, with their best result being a Quarterfinals berth in 2020.

Belize’s next match comes up on Sunday against Haiti. Our final encounter will be against hosts, Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday.

Match Schedule for Team Belize:

  • Friday, February 21, 2025: Belize 0-0 Guyana @ 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize)
  • Sunday, February 23, 2025: Belize vs. Haiti @ 10:00 am (8:00 am Belize)

In other Group A action today, Haiti will face Antigua and Barbuda at 1:00 pm Belize time (2:00 pm Antigua time). Haiti is one of the most successful Caribbean nations in the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Qualifiers, having qualified for the final round six times and finishing on the podium twice. Antigua and Barbuda are aiming for their first trip to the final round in their ninth qualifiers appearance.

The 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Qualifiers feature 24 nations competing across Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, and Trinidad and Tobago, with six teams advancing to the 2025 Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship. This championship will, in turn, determine the four Concacaf representatives for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
