By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize High School of Agriculture in Orange Walk District has emerged as the 1st place winner in the high school category of the 2025 National Agriculture and Trade Show School Garden (NATS-SG) Competition. Their commitment to agricultural education and hands-on learning secured them the top spot, reaffirming their position as a leader in sustainable farming practices.
Following closely behind were Belmopan Comprehensive School and New Hope High School, both displaying exceptional creativity and commitment to school gardening. Their efforts highlight the importance of fostering environmental stewardship among high school students.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) stated that a total of 30 schools took part in this year’s competition, demonstrating innovation and commitment to sustainable agriculture. The primary school category also saw strong contenders, with San Victor RC School securing 1st place in their division.
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the dedication and teamwork displayed throughout the competition.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to all 30 participating schools for their hard work and commitment to agricultural education. Special thanks go out to the students, teachers, and parents whose teamwork and enthusiasm brought each garden to life,” MAFSE said.
“We also recognize and thank our dedicated judges and extension officers across the country for their invaluable support and contribution to the successful execution of this national event. As we close this year’s competition, we look forward to an even greater School Garden Competition in 2026. Let us continue nurturing young minds through agriculture and growing a greener Belize together.”
The winners will be officially honoured at the Opening Ceremony of the National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) on May 30th, 2025.
