By Zoila Palma: In August 2025, Lidear Lino was charged with Unlawful Possession of Forest Produce under Belize’s Forests Act.

The matter has now concluded before the Court of Belize, with Lino pleading guilty to the offense and being fined BZ$2,000.00.

The Forest Department extended its gratitude to all individuals who assisted in securing this conviction.

The Belize Forest Department reminds that it is illegal to possess any wildlife or wildlife parts, including teeth, skins, feathers, nests, eggs, or any wildlife derivatives.

No permits authorize individuals to retain such items under any circumstances.

Offenders may face penalties of up to BZ$10,000.00.

The Forest Department urges all Belizeans to play an active role in protecting wildlife and to discourage illegal trade.

Anyone with information regarding forest or wildlife crime is encouraged to report it through the following channels:

  • Forest Department Facebook Page: Forest Department Belize
  • Hotline: 610-1524

“Together, we can combat illegal wildlife trade and safeguard Belize’s biodiversity and natural heritage for future generations,” the Forest department said.
