Belize football champions Sagitun GIRLZ to compete in UNCAF FIFA Forward Women’s Interclubs Cup in Guatemala City in mid-July

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sagitun GIRLZ, who won the final National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) championship last December, will be competing in the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA Forward Women’s Interclubs Cup in Guatemala City in mid-July.

The Sagitun GIRLZ are competing in Group B against Liga Deportiva Alajuelense of Costa Rica, Alianza of El Salvador, and Xinabajul of Guatemala.

Group A comprises Unifut Antigua of Guatemala, Santa Fe of Panama, Real Estelí of Nicaragua, and CDF Under of Honduras.

The regional tournament will be held at Cementos Progreso Stadium in Guatemala City from Friday, July 19 to Thursday, July 25.

Captain Sabrina Eiley said Sagitun GIRLZ will be travelling to Guatemala City on Wednesday, July 16 to arrive on Thursday.

Sagitun GIRLZ open against Alajuelense on July 19 at 2:00 pm. Next, they take on Alianza at 11:00 am on Sunday, July 21.Their final group game will pit them against Xinabajul at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23.

According to the tournament format, on Thursday, July 25, the group winners will play for the championship. The second place teams will determine third place. The two third place teams will face each other for fifth place and the fourth place teams will take on each other for seventh place.

The teams leave Guatemala City on Friday, July 26.

Currently, Sagitun GIRLZ are getting ready to play Jewel Fury in the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Finals after eliminating Belmopan’s Napoles last weekend.

The PWLB is the new tournament that replaced the NAWL, this year.
