Belize football champions Sagitun GIRLZ fundraise to assist in their participation in UNCAF FIFA Forward Women’s Interclubs Cup in Guatemala next week

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National champions Sagitun GIRLZ are fundraising to assist themselves for their participation in the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA Forward Women’s Interclubs Cup which will be held Guatemala City next week.

Sagitun GIRLZ will be travelling to Guatemala on Tuesday, July 16 to the regional tournament that will be played at the Cementos Progreso Stadium in Guatemala City from Friday, July 19 to Thursday, July 25.

“For fundraising were doing sales at Inter district games held in the Michael Ashcroft Stadium and also accepting any donations small or big to help us out.ñ,” Captain Sabrina Eiley told Breaking Belize News.

Competing in Group B, Sagitun GIRLZ will open against Liga Deportiva Alajuelense of Costa Rica on July 19 at 2:00 pm. Next, they take on Alianza of El Salvador at 11:00 am on Sunday, July 21.Their final group game will pit them against Xinabajul of Guatemala at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23.

Group A comprises Unifut Antigua of Guatemala, Santa Fe of Panama, Real Estelí of Nicaragua, and CDF Under of Honduras.
According to the tournament format, on Thursday, July 25, the group winners will play for the championship. The second place teams will face each other for third place. The two third place teams will play for fifth place and the fourth place teams will take on each other for seventh place.

The teams leave Guatemala City on Friday, July 26.

Currently, Sagitun GIRLZ are also getting ready to play Jewel Fury in the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Finals after eliminating Belmopan’s Napoles. That Final series have been delayed until after Sagitun GIRLZ’s Uncaf Championship participation.

The PWLB is the new tournament that replaced the National Women’s Amateur League (NAWL) this year. Sagitun GIRLZ won the last NAWL Championship in December 2023.
