By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) delivered an improved performance compared to their outing against Costa Rica, but their inability to convert chances cost them dearly in their 1-0 defeat to Montserrat in Wednesday’s World Cup Qualifying match at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.

Belize looked more composed and structured than against Costa Rica, creating several scoring opportunities throughout the match. However, their lack of clinical finishing meant they were unable to capitalize on key moments. Montserrat, meanwhile, held firm, with Mark Rogers’ second-minute goal proving decisive as they maintained their early lead until the final whistle.

Despite the loss, BMNT showed encouraging signs of progress, particularly in midfield where Jordy Polanco dictated play and set up attacking movements. Krisean López and Carlos Bernárdez had chances but couldn’t find the final touch to break Montserrat’s defense.

Nahjib Guerra played a vital role in attacking down the flanks, creating multiple opportunities, but Belize’s lack of clinical finishing meant they couldn’t capitalize on their chances

Coach Daniel Bartolotta made several substitutions in an effort to turn the game around, bringing in Warren Moss, Moises Hernandez, Jaheim Mena, and Horace Avila to inject fresh energy into the squad. The changes allowed Belize to push forward with more urgency, but despite their attacking intent, the BMNT simply could not find the finishing touch needed to level the score.

With this result, Belize are officially eliminated from World Cup qualification and now turn their attention to their final match against Panama on Saturday at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, where they will aim to end their campaign on a positive note.
