By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U17 Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) lost 2-0 to Honduras in their opening match of the 2025 CONCACAF Women’s U17 Qualifiers on Monday, January 27, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
“In their opening match of the 2025 CONCACAF U17 Women’s Qualifiers, our Belizean warriors gave their all but fell 2-0 to Honduras,” the FFB said after the initial match.
“The journey continues as they prepare to face the host country, Trinidad and Tobago, on January 29th. Let’s rally behind our team and show them our unwavering support!”
In the other Group B match, hosts Trinidad and Tobago play against the US Virgin Islands at 6:00 pm.
Five other groups are competing simultaneously. In other scores on Day 1, Bermuda defeated the Cayman Islands 2-0 in Group A in Puerto Rico, El Salvador walked over Antigua and Barbuda 9-0 in Nicaragua, and Cuba dropped Guyana 2-0 in the Dominican Republic.
Apart from the Trinidad match on Monday, Panama will face Turks and Caicos Islands in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala will take on Curaçao in Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico will tackle St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Puerto Rico. All games are scheduled for 6:00 pm.
The schedule for Belize’s matches is as follows:
- Monday, January 27, 2025: Belize 0-2 Honduras @ 5:00 PM (3:00 PM Belize)
- Wednesday, January 29, 2025: Belize vs. Trinidad and Tobago @ 8:00 PM (6:00 PM Belize)
- Friday, January 31, 2025: Belize vs. US Virgin Islands @ 5:00 PM (3:00 PM Belize)
The six group winners and the two best runners-up will advance to the next round, where they will join the top four teams, namely the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Haiti, in April-May 2025 for the CONCACAF Championship. The top four from that tournament will earn a berth in the U17 World Cup to be held in Morocco this year.
