Belize opened their campaign at the XV Central American Under-19 Women’s Volleyball Championship on Wednesday with a 3-0 loss to Honduras at the FESAVOL Gymnasium in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The young Belizean squad, featuring mostly U17 players, showed moments of promise but ultimately fell in straight sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-14) to a more experienced Honduran side. The match marked Belize’s debut in the regional tournament after resting on Tuesday’s opening day.
The result sets up a challenging path forward for Team Belize, who now face a formidable Nicaraguan team on Thursday at 4:30 pm. Nicaragua opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Honduras on Tuesday, winning 31-29, 25-14, 26-24 in a tightly contested match.
With just one day between matches, Belize will need to regroup quickly under the guidance of Head Coach Nelissa Ramirez and Assistant Coaches José Fontes and Kevanna Sebastian. The team will have an early training session at 8:00 am on Thursday to fine-tune their game plan against Nicaragua.
