By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As the First Central American Invitational U15 Girls Volleyball Championship approaches its conclusion, Belize’s U15 Girls Volleyball Team is set to finish their campaign with three critical matches on Saturday and Sunday, December 15, 2024. Following their 4:00 pm game against Costa Rica on Saturday, Belize will face Guatemala and El Salvador, aiming to maintain their strong standing in the tournament.
Belize are playing two games on Sunday because their initial game against Guatemala on opening day, Wednesday, December 11, was postponed because of Belize’s late arrival in Managua due to their delayed flight.
“Guatemala has agreed to play it at 8 am Sunday morning. So, both Belize and Guatemala have two matches tomorrow,” Belize Volleyball Association President Allan Sharp told Breaking Belize News. Sharp explained that Belize would have lost the match by default if Guatemala didn’t agree.
“It’s a first time for the tournament, so no one wants a default,” he explained.
Their final game will be against El Salvador at 2:00 pm.
Currently, Belize holds a perfect record of 2-0, placing them second in the standings behind undefeated Costa Rica, who boasts a 3-0 record. Coach José Fontes has expressed confidence in his team’s resilience and determination as they prepare for the final two days of competition.
These final matches are crucial for Belize as they strive to secure their position and potentially overtake Costa Rica in the standings. Fans and supporters are encouraged to follow the action and cheer on the team as they compete for glory in this prestigious championship.
