Belize face Costa Rica in XV Under 19 Men’s Central American Volleyball Championship on Friday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize are gearing up to play against Costa Rica on Friday, December 13, 2024, in the XV Under 19 Men’s Central American Volleyball Championship, taking place in San Salvador, El Salvador. This match, set to start at 3:00 pm at the El Salvador Volleyball Federation’s (FESAVOL) Gymnasium, comes after Belize’s recent 3-0 defeat to Guatemala on Thursday, a loss that marked their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

In their recent match against Guatemala, Belize fell 3-0 with set scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-13. On Thursday as well, Costa Rica defeated Nicaragua 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-14, 15-9) while Panama beat Honduras 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23).

Despite their struggles and a current 0-4 record, Belize are determined to put up a strong fight against leaders Costa Rica. The team has faced several challenges in the competition, but they are hopeful for a turnaround.

Belize’s upcoming matches are crucial as they strive to improve their record. At present Belize are in sixth place with their 0-4, just ahead of Honduras, who are 0-5.

Costa Rica lead with 4-1 and 20 points, followed by undefeated Panama, who stands at 4-0 with 18 points. Guatemala are third with 3-1 and 15 points. Nicaragua and El Salvador follow in fourth and fifth places, respectively. Both have a 2-2 record and nine points, but Nicaragua have a better sets’ win-loss ratio.

After facing Costa Rica on Friday, they will go up against Honduras on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm.

• Saturday, December 14, 2024: Belize vs. Honduras at 2:00 pm
