Belize face Costa Rica in UNCAF FIFA Forward U19 Men’s Tournament on Friday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 19 Belize Men’s National Team (U19 BMNT) are facing Costa Rica at 3:00 pm on Friday as the 2024 Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA Forward Tournament kicks off in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Costa Rica are probably Belize’s toughest challenge in the Central American tournament in which they will also tackle Guatemala and Cuba in Group B. Cuba are playing as invited guests.

Group A consists of Honduras, Panamá, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

The U19 BMNT second game will pit them against Guatemala on Sunday, January 21 at 11:00 am. They close group play against Cuba on Tuesday, January 23 at 11:00 am.

The winners of both groups qualify for the Final. The second, third, and fourth place teams play against the same ranked teams from the other group in ranking games on Thursday, January 25.

The UNCAF tournament are being played at the Olimpia High Performance Center (Centro de Alto Rendimiento – CAR CDO) in Tegucigalpa. Fields 1 and 2 (Canchas #1 and #2) are natural grass while Field 3 (Cancha #3) is artificial turf. Olimpia is the biggest and most popular team in Honduras. Their base is in Tegucigalpa.

UNCAF organized the FIFA Forward U19 Men’s Tournament as a tournament for the Central American national teams to prepare for the Concacaf Under 20 Championship Qualifiers which will be in February and March. Belize are playing in Group A against Cuba, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, and Nicaragua. Those qualifiers will be played in Managua, Nicaragua from February 23 to March 3, 2024.
