By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize face three world basketball superpowers, the United States, Brazil, and hosts Argentina, in the FIBA Under 18 Americas Cup which gets underway on Monday at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Team Belize, featuring captain and center Douglas Langford, who was selected to the U17 Boys Centrobasket Championship All Star Five last year here in Belize, and Villanova University’s new power forward Josiah Moseley.
Team Belize also features Meshach Flowers, Devin Moody, Ian Parham Jr., Elijah Favela, Jason Orosco, Tevaughn Dawson, Wilford Dawson, Amare Jones, Thomas Garcia, Michael Caceres, and Daniel Musa
Belize were seeded in Group B alongside the United States, Brazil, and Argentina.
Belize tip off their participation in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup against Brazil at 2:40 pm (5:40 pm Argentina time) on Monday. Next, Belize will then take on the most powerful opponents, the United States, on Tuesday, June 4 at 2:40 pm (5:40 pm Argentina time). Belize will close group play against Argentina on Wednesday, June 5, at 5:10 pm (8:10 pm Argentina time).

Belize qualified to the FIBA Under 18 Americas Cup by capturing third place on an 87-72 win over Mexico 87-72 in the FIBA Under 17 Centrobasket Championship held in Belize City in July 2023. Puerto Rico won the Centrobasket tournament beating the Dominican Republic 106-57 in the final. Both are also competing in the U18 AmeriCup in Group A alongside Venezuela and Canada.
In the other Group B games, Argentina take on the United States at 5:10 pm on Monday, Brazil challenge Argentina on Tuesday at 5:10 pm, and Brazil match up against the United States at 2:240 pm on Wednesday.
All eight teams advance to the playoffs on Friday where the number one seeded team from one group will play the fourth from the other and the second seeded will take on the third seeded from the other. On Saturday, Friday’s winners play the semifinals and the losing teams face each other in ranking games.
The Final ranking games, including the Final and third place game, will be played on Sunday.
