By Horace Palacio: Wednesday brings continued sunshine and calm conditions to Belize, but the nation remains alert as Hurricane Leslie and Hurricane Milton progress across the Atlantic Ocean. The National Meteorological Service forecasts predominantly fair weather for today, with sunny skies and a few cloudy spells. However, residents are urged to stay informed as the paths of these two powerful storms are being closely monitored.

Temperatures across the country are expected to be warm, reaching a high of 91°F (33°C) along the coast, 92°F (33°C) inland, and a milder 80°F (27°C) in the hills. Westerly winds will blow at 10-20 knots, creating choppy seas with waves of 3-5 feet. Isolated showers or thunderstorms may develop, but significant rainfall is not anticipated.

Sunrise occurred at 5:44 AM and the sun will set at 5:34 PM. Overnight, conditions will be clear to partly cloudy with lows of 79°F (26°C) on the coast, 74°F (23°C) inland, and a cool 66°F (19°C) in the mountainous regions.

Despite the pleasant local weather, attention remains focused on the two hurricanes churning in the Atlantic. Hurricane Leslie, currently packing 80 mph winds, is situated over 1000 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. Further west, Hurricane Milton has intensified into a major hurricane with 155 mph winds, posing a significant threat to Florida.

While Belize is not in the direct path of either storm at this time, the National Meteorological Service stresses the importance of vigilance. The trajectories of these hurricanes can change, and residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest forecasts. For now, Belizeans can enjoy the prevailing fair weather while remaining aware of the potential for changing conditions in the days ahead.
