By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) said that its teams continue to monitor energy demand in San Pedro as the heat wave and increased activities leading up to and throughout the Easter weekend drive up energy consumption on the island.

BEL is encouraging Customers and the public on the island to assist by cutting back on your electricity consumption.

San Pedro is supplied with power via a submarine cable that connects the island to the national grid.

The cable is rated for a capacity of 17 MW.

During peak hours, the demand in San Pedro reached 16.6 MW today.

BEL thanks Customers in San Pedro and the public for their understanding and cooperation as the company continues to make every effort to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable electricity services and energy solutions to you.
