By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) informed that today the company deployed a team of 7 Power Line Technicians and one Line Supervisor to Jamaica to assist Jamaica Public Service (JPS), the sole distributor of electricity in Jamaica, with their power restoration efforts following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Category 4 Hurricane Beryl passed through Jamaica with hurricane winds of 140mph on July 3 and July 4, 2024, causing significant damage to residential and commercial buildings and significant portions of Jamaica’s power infrastructure. St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica was one of the hardest hit regions during the passage of the storm.
“Our BEL team, comprising of Ronald Young, Sergio Esquivel, Jeser Gonzalez, Manuel Lopez, Paul McCalla, Javier Montero, Errol Reneau, and Edward Sutherland will join other power line crews from other member countries of Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) to assist with rebuilding high and low voltage networks and service lines in Jamaica. The team is scheduled to return on August 10, 2024,” BEL noted.
BEL thanked their employees for their service, and for supporting the mission to assist a fellow nation in their efforts to rebuild and restore normalcy to their country as swiftly as possible.
