Belize Electricity Limited issues load shedding schedule commencing at 7pm tonight!

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has issued a load shedding schedule for tonight due to temporary in-country generation shortages and curtailment from Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

Therefore, there is insufficient energy supply to meet the growing demand for consumption.

Starting at 7:00 p.m., today, Tuesday May 7, 2024, load shedding will become necessary for various sections of the country to maintain stability of the grid.

“Our tentative load shedding schedule is based on energy demand and generation projections, which can quickly change throughout the day.

Load shedding is the deliberate reduction of load to match available generation at a given time by disconnecting feeders or sections of feeders from the grid to prevent the collapse of the entire system,” BEL noted.
