By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 15 Belize Women’s National Volleyball Team fought bravely on Thursday, December 11, in Managua, Nicaragua, but ultimately fell 3–2 to Guatemala in a dramatic five-set battle at the 2nd Central American Under-15 Invitational Volleyball Championship.
Belize started strong, taking the first set 25–20 and surviving a marathon second 31–29. At that point, Belize looked poised to secure its first victory of the tournament. But Guatemala refused to fold, clawing back in the third set to win 25–23 and then riding that momentum to a 25–17 triumph in the fourth.
That set up a decisive fifth, where the two teams traded points in a tense back-and-forth battle. Belize fought bravely, but Guatemala found the final push, closing out the set 15–13 to seal the match.

It was a roller-coaster contest, with momentum swinging wildly across the sets, and though Belize fell short, the performance showed determination and promise. The team pushed Guatemala to the limit, proving they can compete at this level despite still searching for their first win.
On Wednesday, Belize had debuted against Honduras on Wednesday, December 10, losing 3–1 (25–23, 22–25, 25–18, 25–16). That match also showed flashes of resilience, as Belize managed to take the second set before Honduras closed out the victory.
Two matches in, Belize’s record may not yet reflect success, but the experience gained in Managua should prove invaluable. The young Belizean athletes are learning to handle the intensity of international play, and their spirited fight against Guatemala reflects their ambition — something the Belize Volleyball Association hopes will yield great returns in the near future.
