By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize dispatched Honduras 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-13) in one hour and five minutes in the nightcap of Day 2 of the XX U-21 Women’s Central American Volleyball Championship at the Belize City Civic Center on Wednesday evening.
With Guatemala resting, Belize improved to a 2-0 record taking sole possession of the top spot.
Captain Gareth Bruce led Belize with 17 points, 15 from attack and two aces. Nisaan Martinez added 10 points, 9 from attack and one ace. Blessed Omamurhe contributed nine points, five from attacks, one block, and three aces.
Kaleigh Cardinez and Jevia Leslie added five points each, Ziane Henderson accounted for four, while Emma Solano and Akili Jones chipped in one each.
Victoria Aparicio and Nicole Velásquez scored seven each for Honduras.
Belize controlled the game racking 40 attack points to Honduras’ 14. They also gained 10 service points to Honduras’ three. Honduras doubled Belize in blocks, 4-2. Belize gained 23 points from Honduras errors while conceding 25.
Earlier, Nicaragua walked over El Salvador 3-0 (25-7, 25-8, 25-13)
Belize (2-0) lead the tournament but Guatemala (1-0) have a break on Thursday to catch up as Belize take their rest day. Currently, Nicaragua are 1-1, Honduras are 0-1, and El Salvador trail with 0-2 record.
On Day 1, Belize dumped Nicaragua 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) while Guatemala downed El Salvador 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-21).
