By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The National U-17 Boys are stepping into unfamiliar territory as they clash with the Belize District U-17 selection in the FFB U-17 High Performance Final this Saturday, July 19 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm, promising a thrilling finale to a tournament full of surprises.
National U-17 Boys Edge Stann Creek in Semifinal
The National U-17 Boys stunned Stann Creek U-17 in the semifinals with a narrow 1–0 victory, secured by Clive Medwood’s penalty in the 61st minute. Their disciplined performance and defensive resilience earned them a spot in the final.
Belize District Survive Cayo in Extra-Time Thriller
Belize District U-17 edged past Cayo U-17 in a goal-packed 5–3 extra-time match on Wednesday at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. Antwan Latchman delivered the knockout blows with a late double in the 115th and 118th minutes. Jacob Joseph, Edmond Sanker, and Tyrone Linares Jr also contributed to Belize District’s tally.
Cayo had led 3–2 up to the 70th minute, with Devaughan Quintanilla scoring a brace in the 66th and 67th minutes, and Jared Garcia converting a penalty in the 30th minute.
A Rematch with History
Interestingly, this matchup echoes their regular season draw, when the two teams tied 2–2 at the FFB Stadium. National U-17’s Daayvon Serano and Zharen Perera gave their side an early lead, but Herwin Gotoy and Jacob Joseph brought Belize District back level.
Final Showdown and Third-Place Match
With youthful energy on one side and tactical maturity on the other, this final will test the resolve and ambition of Belize’s most promising young footballers.
The third-place U-17 match between Cayo and Stann Creek is set for 12:00 noon and will precede the final — a full day of competitive youth football in Belmopan.
