By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize’s push to expand its partnership with Taiwan has taken the form of a full official mission, with Minister of State for Economic Transformation Osmond Martinez leading a four-member delegation on a five-day visit to Taipei, where he reaffirmed Belize’s support for Taiwan and described the country as Belize’s “most important and trusted partner.”
According to a press release from Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry, Martinez and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Pol are heading the delegation from July 27 through 31, a substantial working visit reflecting the weight both governments place on the relationship.
Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi hosted a welcome luncheon for the delegation on Wednesday, where he thanked Belize for its long-standing support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, backing Belize has provided consistently on the world stage.
Chen said the two sides will continue expanding cooperation across a notably practical agenda: public health, talent development, smart agriculture, electric buses, sustainable tourism, and carbon credits, areas that touch Belizean daily life from the clinic to the farm to the road.
Martinez, for his part, thanked Taiwan for assisting Belize’s national development and reiterated that Taiwan is Belize’s most important and trustworthy partner. He described bilateral exchanges as fruitful and said he expects to further strengthen trade, investment, and exchanges between the two countries.
Taiwan and Belize have maintained diplomatic relations for 37 years, a partnership Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said is founded on shared values including freedom, democracy, and human rights.
The visit continues an unusually active stretch for the alliance, coming just days after the Taiwan Technical Mission featured among the partners launching the Belize MOVES health initiative at home, the relationship working simultaneously in Belmopan and Taipei.
With the delegation’s mission running through Friday, further announcements from the visit may yet emerge, and Breaking Belize News will report any concrete agreements that follow. For now, the message from Taipei is clear on both sides: 37 years in, the Belize-Taiwan partnership is still growing.
