By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Recent heavy rainfall has caused the Rio Hondo River to rise rapidly, resulting in significant flooding in the San Roman and San Antonio areas.

Water levels have reached around 3 feet over the roads, making them impassable for small vehicles.

In response, members of India Company, 2nd Infantry Battalion of the Belize Defence Force (BDF) are assisting NEMO by transporting students, teachers, and public workers through the flooded zones.

The BDF began transporting students on October 24 and will continue until waters recede.

“The BDF remains dedicated to supporting the Belizean community,” a statement said.
