By Zoila Palma: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) received a new 29-seater coach bus on September 15, 2025, as part of the Belize Integral Security Programme (BISP).
The handover ceremony took place with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation, Dr. Osmond Martinez, delivering the keys to the BDF.
On hand to receive the vehicle were Minister of National Defence and Border Security Oscar Mira, and Minister of Constitution and Religious Affairs, Indigenous Affairs, and Transportation Louis Zabaneh.
Also present were CEO of the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security, Francis Usher, and Brigadier General Azariel Loria, Commander of the BDF.
The coach bus, valued at BZ$168,000, was financed through BISP, a BZ$60 million citizen security initiative funded by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).
Officials say the bus will provide logistical support to BDF members, enhancing their ability to carry out national defence duties effectively.
