By Zoila Palma: The Belize Defence Force (BDF), in partnership with the Louisiana National Guard, hosted a one-day Wellness Peer Helper Seminar focused on promoting mental health and peer support.
Held at Price Barracks under the theme “Bringing ACE into Practice,” the training aimed to equip soldiers with tools to identify and assist peers in distress using the ACE (Ask, Care, Escort) model.
Led by BDF Wellness Officer Captain G. Lovell and Chaplain Major Mark Logue, the seminar welcomed 11 BDF soldiers and featured hands-on workshops, open discussions, and scenario-based learning.
The goal: to build a culture of mental wellness and support within the ranks.
Distinguished guests from the Louisiana National Guard also participated, highlighting the ongoing partnership between the two forces in resilience and leadership development.
“This seminar is not just about training; it’s about changing the culture of how we support one another in uniform,” said Captain Lovell.
