By Aaron Humes: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) has issued a statement clarifying reports concerning the involvement of its personnel in a shooting incident on the Phillip Goldson Highway. The statement aims to dispel confusion regarding the status of two soldiers injured in the event.
According to the BDF, Private Glenford Reid has been classified as Absent Without Leave (AWOL) for approximately eight years before today’s shooting. The Force is currently reviewing his status in line with established protocols.
In addition, the BDF confirmed that Private Joshua Augustine is in the process of awaiting formal approval from the Security Services Commission for his discharge and removal from active service. His administrative separation had already commenced.
The BDF emphasized its commitment to discipline, accountability, and the rule of law. “We continue to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities and will provide further updates as necessary,” the statement concluded.
Both men were injured and are hospitalized as police investigation continues.
